“Whoever thought of Poetry & Porridge….. well done! I enjoyed all of them, each in its own “frame” of, a smile, a tear, a longing and many more feelings. Slán go foill and I hope each poet continues to fill our days with wonder and smiles.”

“The art project is like a ripple effect. Not only has my dad benefited from it, our whole family has. His garden has never looked as good, it has flourished. The best it has been in years – partly because of the good weather, but mainly because of Dad working with the artist.”

“When you are a kid you have all that imagination and as you get older you kind of lose it. Maybe you’re working or doing something else and you lose all the imagination. If you kept it up you could maybe have been a poet or a great painter. You’re doing something that you didn’t get the chance before. Now I got the chance and I’m going to grab it. I’m the happiest man on Earth now today.”

“It’s so peaceful. Only the peace matters. It’s like being there. I’ve been in the hospital for such a long time. When you have Chemo, your platelets are low. You can’t have visitors. You take it for granted – being able to go for a walk in nature. Thank you for taking me out today.”

We run the west of Ireland’s leading Arts and Health programme as a means of improving the hospital experience for patients, staff and visitors. We believe that access to the arts promotes well-being and enhances the hospital environment. It encourages new ways of seeing and fresh dialogue – making the hospital a place of possibilities.
