Run River Run is a public art commission for University Hospital Galway’s 75-bed block, created in 2016 by internationally renowned artists Cleary Connolly. Responding to the theme of Rivers, which also gave names to the building’s wards, the artists worked with memories, thoughts, and the lines of favourite songs or poems given to them by staff, patients and families. The resultant 18 anamorphic artworks ranged two meters to sixty metres long.

Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly discuss how the initial challenges of a collaborative approach to creating public artworks led to rewarding avenues of exploration in Lines of Escape, their 2017 Perspectives piece on artsandhealth.ie.
