Saolta Arts presents ‘Galway’, an exhibition by local artists Carol Feeney and Noreen Burke on the Arts Corridor of University Hospital Galway and will be on display until December 1st 2022.  Both artists are graduates of Atlantic Technical College, Galway and hold Bachelor of Art Degrees in Fine Art and Design.

Carol Feeney was raised in Bowling Green, a terraced street in the heart of Galway City. She is now based in the village of Inverin, Connemara.  She has exhibited her work widely throughout Ireland.  Her work is influenced by the heart of Galway and the landscape of the West of Ireland.  Her love of colour is evident in her art and her paintings are inspired by her surroundings, treasured days with family and memories of childhood.  Her aim is to reflect mood and emotion.  She creates vibrant, colourful, atmospheric work. Her style is impressionistic and gestural.  In this current exhibition titled ‘Galway’ her paintings portray images of cityscapes, seascapes and landscapes of Galway City and Connemara which hold a special place in her heart e.g. ‘Raven Terrace’ is the street where her parents first met and fell in love in 1955; the ‘Ladies Beach’ paintings evoke happy memories of her own childhood summers, then summer days with her own four children and more recently treasured days enjoyed there with her grandchildren.

Noreen Burke is a native of Galway and completed a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Design in Atlantic Technical College, Galway in 2017.  Noreen was selected as one of the recipients of the Galway City Council Arts Award for 2022.  She has exhibited her work widely around Ireland and her paintings are in collections in Ireland and the United States of America. She was recently selected as one of the artists for the book Artists Eye on Galway, published in 2022.  Noreen works in oils and Galway, with its rugged beaches, historic buildings, beautiful landscape and people are a wonderful inspiration for her paintings.  Many of her paintings depict everyday life in the past or present time.  She loves to capture a scene that may not always be there as the years progress.

Margaret Flannery, Arts Director: ‘‘We are delighted to present the work of Carol Feeney and Noreen Burke on the arts corridor of University Hospital Galway. Both artists’ work is uniquely accessible and the theme of Galway will resonate with many patients, staff and visitors. The artworks bring the outside world into the hospital environment; familiar scenes from our city and county are presented in exquisitely detailed and colourful paintings.”
